Top officials of the United Nations (UN) have praised the Bangladeshi peacekeepers for their sincerity, dutifulness and professional attitudes.
They expressed their commendations when Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury made an official visit to the UN Headquarters on Friday, said a press release issued from Bangladesh mission in New York on Saturday.
Admiral Auranzeb paid a courtesy call on UN Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Under Secretary General for Operational Support Atul Khare there, reports BSS.
They discussed issues related to naval activities in missions and other concerned matters.
The navy chief said the Bangladesh Navy has been participating in the UN peacekeeping missions for a very long time.
He stressed the necessity of increasing Bangladesh Navy’s participation in upcoming missions, and discussed expanding the human resources and allotment of newer military hardware.
Earlier on Thursday, the navy chief paid a visit to the UN Headquarters’ Military Adviser and Assistant Secretary-General Lieutenant General Carlos H Loitey.
Defense Advisor of Bangladesh permanent mission to UN Brigadier General Khan Firoz Ahmed and Director of Navy Headquarters (Operation) Commodore Mahmudul Malek were also present, among others at the meeting.
Naval Chief Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury left Dhaka for New York on Wednesday on a four-day official visit to the United Nations Headquarters.
