Pat Perez Opens Up on ‘Unforgivable Act’ Committed By Fellow LIV Golfer Phil Mickelson

Much of the war of words that’s been going on in the golf world for close to the last year has come between those siding with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. Now, however, we have a case of criticism from within the LIV camp.

Pat Perez, who was in the news last month for taking home over $8 million in seven LIV events in 2022 despite not doing a whole heck of a lot on the course, took aim at Phil Mickelson on the Son of a Butch podcast with Claude Harmon.

Perez explained that even though he joined LIV Golf, Mickelson was going behind everyone’s back on the PGA Tour to try to recruit players to LIV. And Perez insinuated that Mickelson profited from the covert recruiting mission.

Perez said on the podcast:

“And the fact that when he made this action, not only was it – he had intentions of doing it. He was already – he knew it was going to happen before it happened and when he did it – I was hurt for one. I was like, ‘How can this guy do this?’”

“When it comes to Phil, I have a different hate for Phil than most people. People won’t know the story, I’m not going to go into the story again, but Phil crossed the line with me that is just uncrossable and unforgivable.”

Perez did say that Mickelson is correct in his assessment of the PGA Tour and how, in their opinion, they are not on the side of the golfers. He just didn’t agree with Mickelson’s way of going about things behind other players’ backs.

Perez added:

“He (Phil) is 100% correct in the fact that the way the Tour is the way they are. They are for themselves, they are not for the players. They are not for growing anybody else except their own pockets.”

Perez is a part of the 4 Aces team, captained by Dustin Johnson, that won the team championship this season. He’s expected to return to that role in 2023.
