RI Foreign Minister to Attend 8th Indonesia-Japan Ministerial Level Strategic Dialogue in Tokyo, 6 March 2023

Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi is scheduled to visit Tokyo, Japan to attend the 8th Indonesia-Japan Ministerial Level Strategic Dialogue on 6 March 2023. This year’s Strategic Dialogue coincides with the 65th anniversary of Indonesia-Japan diplomatic relations and 50 years of ASEAN-Japan partnership. 

The meeting with the Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr Hayashi Yoshimasa, is expected to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in the fields of trade and investment, infrastructure, energy transition, labour, and marine and fisheries. 

The two Foreign Ministers will also raise regional and global issues, including the ASEAN-Japan partnership and the concrete implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

During her stay in Japan, the Indonesian Foreign Minister is also schedule​​​d to meet and hold discussions with several local figures on Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN and enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. 

In 2022, Japan was Indonesia’s 3rd largest trading partner and 4th largest source of investment. The total value of bilateral trade, which reached USD 42 billion, showed an increase of 29% from the previous year. Meanwhile, Japanese investment in Indonesia last year reached USD 3.56 billion. 

The 7th Strategic Dialogue was held in Jakarta on 10 January 2020 with the previous Foreign Minister of Japan, Mr Motegi Toshimitsu.​
