Indonesia has strong foundation for becoming industrialized nation

“This is a small part of a greater achievement. All can be achieved through good cooperation among all stakeholders for the benefit of a better industry and Indonesia.”

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has a strong foundation to become an industrialized country, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Tuesday.

“This is a small part of a greater achievement. All can be achieved through good cooperation among all stakeholders for the benefit of a better industry and Indonesia,” he remarked.

In 2020, the growth of non-oil/non-gas manufacturing industry came under pressure and contracted 2.52 percent due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted.

Through various strategic policies to accelerate the national economic recovery, the manufacturing industry in the country continued to revive, he said.

The performance returned to bullish in 2021, with the growth rate of 3.67 percent. The positive trend continued in 2022, as reflected by the first-quarter growth of 5.75 percent, second-quarter growth of 4.33 percent, and third-quarter growth of 4.88 percent,” he said.

The good achievement proves that the government managed to maintain industrial growth amid the current upheaval and challenge, he added.

The non-oil/non-gas manufacturing industry contributed 16.10 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2022, he said.

The industrial contribution was the highest among other economic sectors, he added.

“This is our joint task to increase industrial performance so we can move to an industrialized nation (status),” he said.
